Indonesia
After the earthquake and tsunami in 2004 devastated Banda Aceh in Indonesia, relief workers Roy and Louise van Broekhuizen came to help survivors rebuild their community. While there, they discovered handbags with traditional embroidery that they thought they could help promote and sell in America. Their company, Laga, which means "beautiful" in Acehnese, has grown from employing 12 to now 120 women and hopes to create even more opportunities for their future.
